Sally White, owner of Sally’s Place on Main Street, Westport, has said her goodbyes and her thanks to those who have made her work and her home so special for the past twenty-seven years in business.
From the beginning she sold everything from jazz to classical to international music, in the form of vinyl records, tapes and CDs. She’s been widely praised for truly knowing her music, having been around for big names like Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman, among many others. Years of support from the record companies with the combination of loyal customers are what made Sally’s experience as a storeowner unique.
At the closing, she expressed her gratitude for being able to do what she has loved for all of these years in a place that is said to be her “heart and soul.”
White's positive attitude towards the closing reflects the way that she conducted her business over the years. And while she kept herself familiar with contemporary music, she was known for her expertise with the classics. She especially loved vinyl records, the way that she learned to love music. She recalls Sinatra as her first and foremost favorite singer.
