When Tracy Yost (aka The Bike Lady) moved from Santa Cruz, California, back to Connecticut, she thought something was missing. Both were beachy towns, but the vibes were totally different from each other.

“Everyone’s always going, going, going here,” Yost says. “No one stays, and yet we live in this really beautiful place.”

So Yost decided it was time to shake things up a bit by fostering a recreational activity that could serve as a rest stop for all the hustle and bustle that is so Westport.

That’s when Westport Bike Rentals was born.

Westport Bike Rentals, open since May 1, is a mobile beach bike rental service, complete with preplanned routes and pit stops, free charity rides on Monday nights and a Peddle, Paddle and Picnic package.

The official pit stops include restaurants like The Granola Bar, bartaco, Vespa, The Pearl and more. Each Monday night, a different charity organization is spotlighted and donations for that group are accepted in place of the bike rental price. Yost is even planning collaborations with hot brands like The Two Oh Three and SoulCycle.

Yost started this company to become engaged, to better the community, to get to know people and, most important, to show people that you don’t have to go anywhere to have a nice, relaxing time.

“Sometimes you have to stop doing and just be,” she says. “I want to remind people to schedule some unscheduled time. We need to stop taking life so fast all the time.”

Yost wants Westport residents to explore their lovely town like she did through her bike rides. So with Westport Bike Rentals, she has created an “easy, breezy” way to do just that.

“When you get to know a town, it’s easy to fall in love with it,” The Bike Lady says.
