5 Ways to Pretend Summer 2017 Lives On

The days are shorter, breezes cooler, and the emergence of pumpkin-scented items are beginning to fill the air of Fairfield County. Yes, the pumpkin craze has already commenced and Summer 2017 is drifting away. If you’re not quite ready to kick off those flip-flops, don’t fret! There’s still plenty of summer lovin’ to be had. Uncrumple those bucket lists and grab a pen, because here are five close-to-home to-do’s that you can enjoy and check off before  summer ends.

Greenwich Polo Club—Greenwich

Experience one of the most elite, high-goal polo venues in the world at Greenwich Polo Club. Each Sunday during the summer, over 2,000 spectators attend to watch the historic matches, while spending a relaxing afternoon in a beautiful setting with family and friends. The USPA East Coast Open is happening now, and there are two events left: September 3 and September 10. Be sure to secure your spot, and buy your tickets now. The dress code is Sunday picnic chic, and sunglasses, sunblock and hats are recommended. It doesn’t get more summery than that!

 

Maritime Aquarium Cruise—Norwalk

Take advantage of Fairfield County’s natural coastal beauty aboard the Maritime Aquarium’s sixty-four-foot catamaran. Several signature cruises are available throughout the summer months and well into the fall, ranging from marine life encounter cruises to TGIF cruises, sunset adventures and more. The Oktoberfest Cruise is available every Saturday in October at 5 p.m. and features seasonal tastings from local craft breweries—the perfect way to say cheers to summer. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended.

 

Sunset Grille—Norwalk

While you’re in Norwalk, grab a bite at the Sunset Grille, a seasonal seafood restaurant in the Norwalk Cove Marina. Enjoy the gentle coastal breeze and scenic views while sipping on a glass of your favorite wine. This coastal haven offers a casual outdoor dining experience, with plenty of fresh menu items from local oysters to your classic New England lobster roll. A seasonal hot spot, Sunset Grille is only open from mid-April through October, so make plans fast. Date night, anyone?

 

 The Carousel at Mill River Park—Stamford

Bring the kids (or embrace your inner-kid) for a ride on downtown Stamford’s brand new Carousel at Mill River Park. Open all year-round, this lovely community addition, which boasts thirty hand-carved figures and a fully accessible chariot, is located in the Brownstein | Selkowitz Pavilion. The building can be rented out for small and large parties, and even features retractable walls, making the warmer months the best time to visit. The carousel runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from noon to 6 p.m.

 

Sherwood Island State Park—Westport

What better way to appreciate the final days of summer than at Connecticut’s first official state park? Located on the Long Island Sound in Westport, Sherwood Island State Park has outdoor activities for everyone. From swimming and tanning on the sandy beach to packing a picnic lunch, fishing and scuba diving, the outdoor opportunities are endless. The nature center is open to visitors during the summer to offer close-up experiences with live animals, environmental education and local history. The action continues into the fall, beginning with the park’s annual New England Chowdafest on October 1. Enjoy an afternoon of unlimited free samples and cast your vote to help determine this year’s winning chowder.
